The Activities Guide leads guests of all ages and abilities in a variety of outdoor and recreational programming. This is a highly interactive, guest-facing role. Guides are present with guests daily—whether facilitating structured activities such as hiking, lake activities, paddle sports, lawn games, archery, and nature walks, or serving as a knowledgeable and welcoming resource throughout the property.

 

An Activities Guide promotes High Hampton’s active yet relaxed mountain lifestyle, creating thoughtful and personalized experiences that reflect the resort’s heritage, natural setting, and service standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Lead guided hiking experiences throughout the property’s trails and natural areas
  • Facilitate fly fishing experiences, including instruction on technique, equipment use, and local waters
  • Provide instruction on safe and proper use of outdoor equipment
  • Deliver engaging interpretation of the Highlands–Cashiers plateau, including local history, ecology, and mountain heritage
  • Lead and support archery, lawn games, and seasonal family programming
  • Interact with guests as a visible and approachable resource during non-program time
  • Assist with activity setup, breakdown, and daily organization of recreation spaces
  • Maintain activity equipment, docks, boats, and trails
  • Serve as High Hampton’s on-site liaison with local outfitters and activity partners
  • Ensure transportation logistics, waivers, and guest preparedness are completed prior to departure
  • Represent High Hampton professionally when interacting with third-party vendors and community partners
  • Complete required administrative tasks, including activity documentation, waiver verification, equipment inventory tracking, and coordination with the Concierge and Front Office teams
  • Assist with activity scheduling, guest communication, and reservation adjustments as needed
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude in a highly guest-visible role
  • Uphold all company policies and safety standards

 

Must comply with all company policies and procedures.

Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position. 

Must be able to work well with other Team Members, Managers, and interact with our guests.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • None

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE 

  • Previous guiding, camp, outdoor recreation, or hospitality experience preferred
  • Experience working with third-party vendors or coordinating guest excursions preferred
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework in outdoor recreation, environmental studies, hospitality, or related field preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must meet company driving eligibility requirements 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

  • Must have strong communication skills to effectively engage with guests, team members, and leadership in a professional and welcoming manner.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

  • Basic math skills required for equipment counts, scheduling, and activity preparation.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Must assess environmental conditions (weather, lake conditions, trail conditions) to ensure safe programming
  • Must exercise sound judgment based on safety, job knowledge, and company goals
  • Must be able to resolve guest-related issues within the scope of the program

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physically active role in all seasons and weather conditions
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and hike most or all of the shift
  • Must be able to hike uneven terrain and work outdoors for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly
  • Must be comfortable working near and on water
  • Must be able to operate a company vehicle or golf cart safely

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to sun, rain, heat, humidity, and cooler mountain temperatures
  • Fast-paced seasonal resort environment
