Aug 7 Southern Fiction Panel Discussion |
Join us at City Lights Bookstore for a discussion on Southern literature with authors David Joy, Mark Powell, Charles Dodd White and Jon Sealy on Friday, August 7th at 6:30 p.m. We will also be celebrating the release of the anthology Appalachia Now which features short stories from each of these authors. Lee Smith, author of Saving Grace and On Agate Hill says of Appalachia Now, “Hard, brilliant, and dark as coal, this brand new and necessary volume captures Appalachia today, a place where the old bedrock verities of family, community, belief, work, and the earth are all in painful Upheaval --to use the title of Chris Holbrook’s story herein. From manic to elegiac to rough, raw, beautiful, and heartbreaking, these stories will strike the reader as both absolutely true and unforgettable.” |

Aug 22 Meet the Cats |
WCU Athletics invites you to join us at E.J. Whitmire Stadium on Saturday, August 22nd from 3-5 PM. This day marks the final home football scrimmage of fall practices and the start of an exciting year for Catamount Football and Catamount Athletics.
The event is free and open to the public. The first 1,500 fans through Gate 1 will receive free ice cream courtesy of Aramark. Each fan through the gate will receive a raffle ticket to be redeemed for their ice cream at the main concession stand on the west concourse.
During the scrimmage, student-athletes from various WCU teams will be on the west concourse competing against our fans in interactive games like corn hole, volleyball, and mini-golf just to name a few. Catamount sponsors will be there passing out promotional items and information. Be sure to stick around at the conclusion of the scrimmage to hear a few words from Coach Speir and meet your 2015 Catamount Football team. The team will be available to sign autographs and take photos with fans in the west concourse of the stadium following the scrimmage.
Fans will be able to pick up their fall sports schedule posters, schedule cards, and interact with our student-athletes. Bring the family out and help us kick off the 2015 Fall Sports season right with Meet the Cats!
The Catamount volleyball team will be scrimmaging that day as well. The scrimmage is from 1-3 pm in the Ramsey Center and is also a free event that is open to the public.
Season tickets and single game football tickets for 2015 are on-sale now through the WCU Athletics Ticket Office and online at CatamountSports.com. To purchase season tickets please call the WCU Ticket Office toll free at (800) 34-GOWCU or (828) 227-2401.

Aug 25 Matt Beilis Concert |
New Yorker Matt Beilis was born with his distinct voice. Some would say it's unconventional, which would fit the personality of this singer/songwriter/pianist. Matt traded in his Ivy League education along with a lucrative finance career--for a gig in a piano store, betting that his artistic talents would propel him beyond the comfort that his academic achievements all but guaranteed. |

The Cashiers Trail Mix features a 5 mile competitive trail run over diverse terrain or a 3.1762 mile team adventure run including obstacles, mud, and much more! The athlete may sign up for one or both events and must have a team of four for the adventure run.
The mountain trail run and adventure run will take place within the 2,000 acre private community of Chinquapin and will feature more than 400 feet in varying elevation changes with a start and finish at 4,200 feet. Along with the stunning scenery, runners registered for the trail run will enjoy multiple bridge and creek crossings on a wooded trail system winding through the raw and natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Participants in the adventure race will enjoy the same scenery while being challenged both physically and mentally to overcome obstacles using the help of their teammates. Be prepared to get muddy!
