Description

The Village Green is disappointed to cancel the Village Nature Series lecture for Tuesday, April 28. Because the situation with the coronavirus is fluid and evolving, we will continue to keep track of developments with regard to upcoming events and programming. If it becomes necessary to postpone or cancel additional planned community activities we will post this information on our website and on social media (Follow and Like @cashiersgreen).

During April-October, The Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust and The Village Green invite visitors and local residents to learn about our regions’ diverse wildlife and heritage. The Village Nature Series is a series of lectures held the last Tuesday of each month at 5:30 pm in The Village Green Commons Hall. Join us for the following discussions:

  •  April 28th -  Four experts versed in the topics of phenology, stream health, birds, and weather will host a panel discussing how these topics affect the local climate on the plateau
  •  May 26th - Brannen Basham and Jill Jacobs of Spriggly's Beescaping will elaborate on the scope of native pollinators and share methods on how to maintain their population.
  •  June 30th - Local Geologist and author of ‘Whence These special places?: The Geology of Cashiers, Highlands and Panthertown Valley ’ Bill Jacobs will share the reasoning behind the enigmas of these landmasses and how they have created a landscape with features that work together in unison.
  • July 28th -  In ode to In Focus, a Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust Photo Exhibit (July 23 - August 3)  a local photographer will share their insights on capturing the nature as a subject matter to show appreciation for this region's land features and diverse wildlife. Visitors will also have the opportunity to engage with and learn about the I-Naturalist app.
  • ?August 25th - Historical Interpreter Caroline McIntire will enact the role of Rachel Carson, environmental activist and author of Silent Spring. Since 2006, Caroline has enacted the roles of Rachel Carson, Francis Perkins, the first female member of the presidential cabinet, and Mary Draper Ingles, an American Pioneer abducted by Shawnee Indians during the French and Indian War.
  •  September 29th - Joey Kyle, The Village Green's Locally Grown on the Green vendor and Farm Manager of The Mountain, will share his insight on the fungus among us and demonstrate their versatility through an interactive activity.
  • October 27th -  To be determined

The Village Nature Series is dedicated to fulfilling The Village Greens’ mission of education. The privately conserved 13-acre park seeks to stimulate curiosity, grow awareness, and nurture creative thinking. The Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, the oldest in the state, protects 2,500 acres in Macon and Jackson county. They seek to promote land stewardship through Hemlock preservation, habitat restoration, and regulation of invasive species.
