RECITAL HALL - COULTER BUILDING
On Wedsnesday, May 1st, the School of Music at Western Carolina University presents a concert featuring two student jazz combos. Each group has prepared around 30 minutes of repertoire which consists of jazz standards from various periods of Jazz including swing, modal, cool, blues, or contemporary. All combo members are responsible for creating original arrangements which take advantage of each combo's unique instrumentation. The emphases of instruction is not only on motivating students to express themselves freely during improvised sections but also on gaining an understanding about how their individual voices contribute to the sound of the ensemble as a whole. WCU jazz small groups often get involved in various on and off campus activities and performances. Most recently, the jazz combos were featured at the international festival on the WCU campus. The concert begins at 7:30 pm in the Recital Hall of the Coulter Building. Please call the School of Music at 227-7242 for more information. Admission is free.
