The NC Cooperative Extension Service will be holding a seminar on how to establish and maintain your Strawberry and Caneberry (Raspberry and Blackberry) patch on Thursday, February 25th, at the Jackson Extension Center on 538 Scotts Creek Rd. Sylva, 2nd floor in room 234 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Topics include the basic cultural needs of strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. Learn more about site selection, the differences between erect, semi-erect and trailing caneberries, proper soil conditions, fertility needs, spacing, weed control, renovation and pruning and thinning principles. Finally, we will discuss the most common disease and insect problems and possible control options.
